Shane Smyth, Broadcaster & PR Professional

Shane has amassed a huge amount of experience working in the world of Public Relations. “This is something I fell into really but found that I actually enjoyed it and seemed to be good at it!” says Shane. The first major event was the European Surfing Championships which were held in Bundoran in 2011. Shane was responsible for the promotion of the event which was deemed afterwards as one of the most successful Eurosurf events ever.

To this day, Shane is the volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer for Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat – again this sees Shane making sure that the profile of the organisation remains high in the area be it publicising callouts or fundraising events – one of the biggest of which is the now annual “Bundoran Lifeboat Soapbox Race” which happens on the Sunday of the June Bank Holiday weekend on the Astoria Road in Bundoran. “This is a massive undertaking by the volunteer crew of the charity and anything that we can do to get the word out about it, we do”.

Shane is also Bundoran Tourism Officer in County Donegal, Ireland. His job is to promote all aspects of the town but also to handle any PR that can be generated.  He manages the tourist office as well the website www.discoverbundoran.com and the social media channels for the Discover Bundoran brand also.

Other events that Shane has worked on in the past include Sea Sessions Surf Music Festival, Lobsters and Lettuce Festival and the GAA fundraiser “The Belle of Bundoran”.

Shane is also no stranger to the press himself and has been featured a number of times in recent years.
